CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
BRICK, POTTERY AND CLAY
WORKERS.
A sitting of the Conciliation Council was held yesterday for the purpose of dealing with a dispute between the Auckland Brick, Pottery and Clay Workers' Union and their employers. The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. T. Harle Giles) presided, and the following assessors were present :—Messrs. J. Austin, T. W. Hewitt, G. Belcher (for the workers), and Messrs. W. E. Hutchison, C. F. Gardner, and T. E. Clark (for the employers). Mr. A. Rosser appeared for the union and Mr. C. Grosvenor for the employers. The claims of the union in respect of wages were that the following should be the minimum rates of wages for all workers employed in and about brick and pottery works: Setters and drawers, Is 3d per hour; pipe hands—flangers in the solid Is 6d per hour, moulders and stickers Is 3d per hour ; pipe kiln burners — burners Is 4d per hour, assistant burners Is 3d per hour. A pipe kiln burner, after finishing a kiln, shall be kept on as a day worker. Competent burners in Hoffman kiln, Is jjcr hour. * Iterations in the hours of work were also a 'red e or.
