LAWS AND REGULATIONS.

[ifX TELEGRAPH.—PRESS . ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. At the Acclimatisation Societies' Conference to-day the following resolutions were unanimously carried: —

That the Government: be requested to acquire from the natives any land forming part of the island of Kapiti at present belonging to such natives, and that the whole of the island be kept as a sanctuary for birds. .

That the New, Zealand Government be congratulated on making efforts to acclimatise Atlantic salmon -, in New Zealand waters, and that it is hoped the work will still be continued.

That the Minister for Internal Affairs be recommended to consent to an open season next year for oppossums, subject to regulations to be submitted by the respective societies interested. >

That the Animate Protection Acts be so amended as to give the Governor-in-Coun-cil power to issue regulations whereby the fee for taking hares may be fixed to suit the various acclimatisation districts. That the Government be asked to continue, their efforts to establish Atlantic, salmon in the'Waiau River. t • That a differential license fee for shooting and fishing be instituted and oversea visitors be charged at-a higher rate than residents of the Dominion. ..

That the Stamp Act and Death Duties Act be amended to exempt from the payment of duty any transfer, conveyance, gift, devise or bequest to any acclimatisation society or to any person or persons in trust for any acclimatisation society. . ; That black swan bo placed on the open list during the shooting, season. That an amendment of the Fisheries Act bo obtained providing for the payment to acclimatisation, societies , of fines imposed upon offenders convicted upon prosecutions under the provisions of part 2 of the statute, in the same manner as 'fines imposed on convictions on the prosecutions under the regulations of acclimatisation societies. That an amendment of the Fisheries Act be obtained providing that all wires and constructions placed across fish-bear-ing rivers or waters by local bodies or others be provided with, proper fish ladders or ways. That the use of decoys for duck shooting be limited to ten per gun. That regulations for deerstalkers be gazetted much earlier than at present. That (a) no license to shoot deer should be granted until at least a fortnight after an advertisement appears stating that licenses can be applied for, (b) that all applications made prior to that date be not considered, (c) ; that every application be accompanied by a deposit, to be returned, if the license be not granted.. That the Animals Protection Act be amended: (a) That any person found trespassing with a dog or gun on any land set apart as reserve or sanctuary for birds shall be liable to a penalty of not less than £5 and not exceeding £&0, (b) that any person found trespassing on any land set apart as reserve or sanctuary for birds or animals shall be liable to a penalty of not less than £1, and not exceeding £5. That having regard to the desirability of preventing the deterioration of red deer herds, it is requisite that the stalking season in the Otago district should commence at least ten days later than at present." That each acclimatisation society be empowered to issue its own deer and game licenses. That the"" season for shooting godwits be from January 1 to March 31, and that knots be shot during the same period. The following officers were elected.■:— President, Mr. L.
