There •was a largo gathering, a; The Rev. George Bond presided. Mr. Newton Jones, the Sunday-school evangel- , ist, now holding a mission in the city, was welcomed, and gave a brief address. The Rev, W. Powell, working among the lepers in i idia, was .also welcomed. The Rev. ; A. ,V. U..c Inought up a favourable report • L of vile no-license campaign. Arrangements for holding the annual, retreat were ' f I left to a sub-committes. A deputation from the National Peaco and Anti-Mili- /, 1 tarist Council; .consisting of Messrs. Her-' i bert Corder, J. A. Hark; and H. F. Wise, ;■ interviewed the association, arid were - , given a patient hearing. ■ A committee was . : appointed to dflal with the matter. A hearty vote of thanks was ' • passed to Mr. Trotter for his hospitality. : 1 HEADMASTERS' ASSOCIATION. v g~ The Auckland Headmasters' Ab?s- . elation met on Friday evening last 2' at the Central . Hotel. Sir. H. G., . 1 Cousins, M.A., occupied the chair. j It was resolved to send to the 5 chief inspector a- letter of appreciation, 2 thanking him for repeating c the ■ lecture 5 ' on "The Geology of the ' Auckland ; Isth--5 mus and Harbour." ' The association . ex- - . i pressed sympathy with the work of the ; ; - t Horticultural Society, and • decided to I donate a guinea as a . special prize for < j children's exhibits this year. It was decid;d to con- ; sider the question of an association din*' J ner at next meeting, , , . 1 ) • 1 I — l — : | ARCHHILL ROAD BOARD. . i Th 6 Archhill Road Board met last night. | Present: Messrs, P. J. Hawkins (chair- ; man), G. Ewan., A. Jenkin, J. W. C. i Somervell, and C. B. Wheeler. A schema i of street improvement and extension of the | drainage system was presented -by -'the I Board's engineer, the estimated cost "being £35,000. After discussion it was decided '
to defer further consideration to a special meeting, and in the meantime to got legal advice as to whether it was necessary to place the matter of raising a loan for the drainage ? work before the ratepayers. It was "resolved to pay the A'rchhili Volunteer < Fire Brigade £30 per annum, the Board to keep the gear in order.
