Dr 0. S. Sirwart, surgeon of R.M.S. lonic, remained in Wellington on account of serious illness. His place was taken by Dr. L. H. Meßrlde, of Franktou, Otago. It is probable that the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Wakanui will go to Australia to load "for Home after she. has completed discharge of her Canadian cargo at Dunedin. Mr. Davidson, late of the Takapuna, has joined the Mar.-roa as third engineer, and Mr. W. H. Uislop, late of the Mararoa, has. joined the Rakanoa as tecond engineer. Mr. MrCraig, second engineer of the Rakanoa, has transferred to (he Waitcnuta in a similar capacity. The Monowai sailed shortly after noon on Saturday for East Coast and Southern ports. The tug Pelican arrived from Tairua. on Saturday morning with a largo raft of logs. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Matatua anchored in the powder ground on Saturday morning, and, after taking in a quantity of explosives, sailed for Wellington, The Northern Company's steamer Ngapuhi arrived from Whangarei on Saturday evening. She sails for the Northern port at 0 p.m. to-day. On Saturday evening the coastal steamer Waiotahi arrived "from Mercury Bay ami Tairua. She will sail at 7 p.m. to-day lor Mercury Bay and way ports. The coastal steamer Apanili will be docked today for annual inspection and overhaul. Her trip to Northern ports will be taken by the Chelmsford, leaving at 2 p.m. to-day. The coastal steamer Tasman arrived from Whakatane. 0:1 Saturday morning. She sails for the same poll at. 11 a.m. to-day. Early on Saturday morning (ho Clansman arrived 'from Northern ports. She sails for Russell and I Ipua this evening. The steamer Kgatiawa arrived from Opotiki and Tatiraiura on Saturday morning, and will sail at 7.15 a.m. on Wednesday for Opotiki, via way pons. The Northern Company's steamer Aupouri arrived from Tauranga on Saturday morning. She leaves for the. Day of Plenty port at. 4 p.m. today. On Saturday morning the Shaw, Savill, and! Albion Company's R.M.S. lonic cleared Wellington for London, via way ports, and should reach her destination on July 28. The New Zealand Shipping Company are advised that the, steamer Kaikoura, which left Wellington on May 3 for London, arrived there on Friday morning. The Union Company's steamer Waipori cleared Kaipara at noon on Saturday with a full cargo of sawn timber for Sydney and Melbourne. On completion of discharge at the latter port, the Waipori loads produce at Melbourne and Gcelong for Auckland.

Some time to-day the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Paparoa is expected to leave Wellington for Napier ami Tokomaru Bay, to continue Homeward loading. From Tokomaru Bay she comes on to Auckland, and leaves this port finally for London about Saturday next. THE TOKOMARU. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Tokomaru left Wellington early on Saturday morning for Auckland, and should arrive this afternoon. The Tokomaru loads getK...l cargo here for London, for which she will sail direct about Wednesday evening. THE FRANKDALE. The large tramp steamer Frankdale, which is bound from Valparaiso to Newcastle, and which put into Auckland on Friday afternoon to refill her bunkers, was supplied from one of the hulks, and resumed her voyage on Saturday morning. WHAKARUA ARRIVES AT LONDON. Information has been received by the local agents of the Tyser Line (Messrs. Heather, Roberton, and Co.)" that- the Whakarua arrived at London on Wednesday. She left Wellington on May 3, and took 41 days on the rim Home. KIA ORA LEAVES RIO DE JANEIRO. Leaving Auckland on May 16, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Kia Ora continued her voyage to London from Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday evening. NAVUA LEAVES SIVA. The Union Company's steamer Navna left Suva at 4 p.m. on Friday for Auckland. She has on board 18 passengers, and cargo for Auckland consisting of 3550 bunches and 4500 cases of bananas, 83 tons molasses, 100 tons of copra and shell, and 5 tons of general cargo. The Navua is ilno hero to-morrow evening, and is expected to sail for Wellington direct on Wednesday morning, THE ATHENIC'S i PASSENGERS. Nicolson, arrived from West-port at .6 a.m. yesterday, and berthed at the Railway Wharf. Sho left Westport at noon on Thursday, and met with south-easterly winds and heavy westerly swells as far as the North Cape, and fine weather afterwards. ■ The vessel has 2126 tons of coal for Auckland, and 1200 tons for Fiji. She will be floated into the Calliope Dock for cleaning 'and painting some time this week, and will leave for Fiji about Saturday. MOKOIA FROM SOUTHERN PORTS. At 10.30 a.m. yesterday the Union Company's steamer Mokoia, Captain R. E. Smith, arrived from Southern and East Coast ports, and berthed at the Hobsan-street Wharf. The purser reports that Dunedin was left at 4 p.m. on Tuesday last, and calls were made at the usual East Coast ports, the vessel leaving Tokomaru Bay at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday. She experienced One weather, with occasional showers, throughout the passage. Tho Mokoia brought 61 saloon and 82 steerage passengers, the latter including 42 passengers who came from London by the R.M.S. Athenie. She also brought a large general cargo. At 2 p.m. to-morrow she will sail for East Coast and Southern ports.

ARRIVAL OF THE TOFUA. The Union Company's Island steamer Tofua, Captain G. Holford, arrived in the stream at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday from Sydney, Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga, and after being granted pratique berthed at the Queen-street Wharf. The vessel was somewliat, behind her usual time, owing to having stuck on a reef in the Fiji Group. The Tofua left Sydney on May 23, called at all the. usual Island' ports, and left Nukualofa at 4 p.m. on Tuesday last. She experienced fine weather generally throughout the passage, with the exception of strong head winds and seas, accompanied by heavy rain, after leaving Nukualofa. These conditions lasted till Thursday morning, when the wind and sea moderated, and fine weather then prevailed. The Tofua will go into the Calliope. Dork to-day for examination and survey, and she is fixed to sail at noon on Wednesday for Island ports and Sydney. EAST STEAMING BY TilK MAHENO. An early arrival at, Auckland yesterday morning was the Union Company's turbine, steamer Jfaheno, from Sydney direct, after a smart passage of 3 days is} hours. Under favourable circumstances, (lie Maheno has again proved that she is cnnable of showing a good turn of speed. The vessel cleared Sydney shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, and experienced light north-easterly winds and smooth seas all the way. She passed Cape Maria Van Dicmen at 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, and made an exceptionally smart run of Ft} hours from that point, and anchored at 5.30 a.m. yesterday. The Maheno was berthed at the Queen-street Wharf some hours later. She is fixed to sail at 5.30 p.m. to-day for Sydney direct. LIGHTHOUSE DUES. An Order-in-Couneil amends the fixing of the lighthouse dues in the Dominion. Any vessel from any place out of New Zealand first arriving at an port in New Zealand where lighthouse dues are "payable shall lie charged the duos fixed for such voyage, and thereafter, on arrival on (ho same voyage at each port, in New Zealand where lighthouse dues are payable, such vessel shall lie charged dues at the rate fixed for Hometrade shins. ' Vessels arriving at any port in New Zealand from the Chatham Islands, the Auckland Islands, Campbell Island. Antipodes Islands, or Bounty Islands, shall he charged dues at the rate fixed for Home-trade shins. ITiII'MATA DUB TO-DAY. Due at Auckland to-day from Newcastle, the new steamer Itluunata will berth on arrival at the Rnilwav Wharf to discharge her cargo of prodnce from' Adelaide, Melbourne, and Oeelong. Till". WHANGATE. A message received from the lightkeepcr at Cape Maria Van Diemen last night states that the steamer Whangape, hound from Newcastle to Auckland, passed the cape at. 12.30 p.m. yesterday. She should reach port this morning, and after discharging a part cargo of coal will go to Tnkomarti Bay, Gisbornc, and Napier with the balance. Till; WAIIiUNA. The Wairunn'fl departure from Gisborno for Auckland has been delayed, anil she is not expected to arrive here till tomorrow afternoon. She will berth at the new Queen-street Wharf to discharge her cargo of produce from Bluff, Oamartl and Timaru. THE COASTAL SURVEY.
