LIQUOR IN KING COUNTRY.
BREACHES OF THE ACT.
[BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Trc Kuiti, Thursday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day several firms were charged with having sent liquor into a proclaimed area without having notified the clerk of tho Court at To Kuiti by a statement in writing of the name and address of tho person to whom sent.
After hearing evidence the Magistratesaid he had given public warnings in January and May last, when ho had notified everybody that in future the punishment should be severe. Over 100 cases of a similar kind had come beforo him since the operation of the Act at the end of November. He had considered theso public warnings to be sufficient, but ho did not want the vendors of liquor to continue to think that a magistrate would still let people off. In one case a fino of £2 and costs was imposed, and the other defendants were convicted and fined £1 and costs.
