DEPARTURE FROM AUCKLAND.
CITY COUNCIL'S FAREWELL,
His Excellency tub Governor (Lord Islington) left Auckland for Wellington by the Main Trunk express last night. He was accompanied by Captain MacDougall A.D.C., and Mr. A. C. . Day, assistant private secretary, Circumstances necessitated Lord Islington abandoning his proposed shooting expedition to Pukemiro.
On Monday His Excellency will visit Palmorflton North, where he will bo Accorded an official reception. He will tako part in several functions on Tuesday, and will return to Wellington on Wednesday to participate in tho Coronation celebrations on tho following day. Tho Auckland City Council last night passed a resolution expressing its appreciation of Lord Islington as a man and a.s representative of the King. The Mayor said Auckland was very pleased to have had Lord Islington in its midst. His interest in civic and industrial matters during his slay had been very great, and the result of his visit had sufficiently proved the wisdom of retaining Government House in the city. The Dominion had been fortunate in its Governors, but especially fortunate in securing such a man of affairs as Lord Islington. Afterserving 15 years in the House of Commons and many years in the greatest local body in the world, the London County Council, lie was just the stamp of man New Zealand required. He desired to get into touch with all classes of the community, to know and to meet everyone, and he had I won the respect and the esteem of the i general body (if the citizens. Mr. Parr then moved, Mr. F. E. N. Gaudin seconded, and the Council carried unanimously, the following resolution: " That the Auckland City Council desires to place on record its appreciation of the very kindly and practical int< it evinced by His Excellency the Governor during his residence amongst the citizens, in the civic, industrial, and social life of the community, and to assure His Excellency and Lady Islington that they will receive a warm welcome always to Auckland. It trusts that Their Excellencies may always find it convenient to spend a portion of their summer vacation at Government House, Auckland."
