PRISONER'S EXPLANATION.
By Telegraph.—Pros' Association.—CopyrigKt. Sydney, Juno 15. Details of the shooting of Steward, of Singapore, reported in the cables a few days ago, show that Mrs. Proud lock stated that sfw'was alone in her bungalow when Steward, a friend of the family, called and made violent advances. She seized a revolver and fired five shots into his body at close quarters.
Bail in a thousand dollars was allowed. (Received June 15, 10 p.m.) Singapore, June 15. The defence pleads that Mrs. Proudlock was hysterical, that her mental equilibrium was upset by Steward's assault, and that she did not know what happened after the first shot was fired.
