TRANSPORT WORKERS.

PROPOSAL TO UNITE. Mr. H. Hunter, a member of tho Christchurch City Council 1 , who attended tho conference of the New Zealand Federation of Drivers at Wellington, states that great dissatisfaction existed regarding tho attitude taken up by tho President of tho Arbitration Court towards tho drivers' unions when application for new awards were being made, and tho unions have been seriously considering whether it would not, bo a wiser plan for them to cancel their registration and rely solely upon the strength of their organisation. It was proposed to establish a federation, to consist of the railway men, the drivers, tho tramway employees, the seamen, and the waterside workers, and ho believed that thero was a very good prospect of that federation being founded. Tho whole of the transport workers would then be welded together into a solid federation, and would be able to do much better for themselves in the way of arranging conditions of work and wages than under the present system. Mr. Hunter added that a general feeling of dissatisfaction existed in the different centres of the Dominion regarding the administration of the Labour Department.
