Mr.. H. H. Rayward arrived in town by the Main Trunk express from "W ton yesterday morning, and will bo in Auckland for some time.

Mr J L I. Newbook, who has for some time 'acted'temporarily as a junior master .of the Auckland Grammar School, has been permanently appointed to the position.

Mr Anderson,, late manager of tho Timaro branch of the Bank of New Zealand, succeeds Mr. .W. also as manager of the Hastings branch. Ahe latter Centering into private business.

The Hon. T. Mackenzie (Minister for Agriculture and Industries and Commerce) paid a visit to,the wharves and other harbour works yesterday. He will leave this morning for Waercnga, and will afterwards proceed to Wellington.

Mr R. Soldenmn, of the Auckland Supreme Court staff, has been transferred to the Wanganui office, and will leave Auckland on Tuesday next, Mr. U. to. McLeod, of tho Napier Supreme Court, has been transferred to tho Auckland office.

' Miss C. L. Beaumont, formerly a pupil of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School, and at present a. member of the teaching staff, recently obtained the degree ot Master'of Arts, with first-class honours In botany. The Board of Governors at yesterday's meeting passed a resolution Congratulating; Miss Beaumont on her success.

Mr. W. F. Massey, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, will speak at Oamaru to-mor-row night, going on to Dunedin on Saturday, and staying there over Sunday. On Monday night next he will speak at Riverton, and at Invercargill on the following night, at Ashburton on the 31st, and at Akaroa on June 1. It is probable that on hie return journey northwards Mr. Massey will speak at Wellington.

Bishop Julius, who met with a motor car accident a few days ago, informed a Press representative that he was making very good progress towards recovery, his chief trouble, however, being a broken rib. Mrs. Julius, on the other hand, was still very feeble, and was suffering severely from shock. She was very much bruised and shaken, and a collar-bone was broken. At present Mrs. Julius was in a private hospital at Timaru, and he hardly knew when it would be possible for her to return to Chrlstchurch. -
