London, May 25. Sir Edgar Spejer, a leading banker, speaking at the Liberal Colonial Club, said: "By our lending capital one per cent, cheaper inside than outside the Empire, we are saving the colonies and India at least £10,000,000 a, year."
Mr. Asquith, who presided, remarked that £10,000,000 was a far more substantial and fruitful form of preference than any of the devices for restoring protection, under which neither the colonies nor the Motherland ever profited.
