BAY OF ISLANDS SEAT. "Mr. R. R. Maktjk, Opposition organiser, arrived in Auckland yesterday after a. visit to Ihe North, where he attended a conference of Opposition delegates nt Okaeawai, convened for the purpose of selecting an Opposition candidate to contest the Bay of Islands seat at the forthcoming general election. Mr- Martin told a" Hkiulb reporter lass evening lhat the meeting was "'■• a/ representative '; one; delegates from all the counties within the electorate being present. , As Mr. J. 0. Johnson could act see his way to contest the seat, Mr. Geo. Wilkinson, of Oram, "Mango was unanimously selected as the Opposition candidate, and committees to operate throughout the electorate were set up to work in his interests., Mr. Wilkinson has taken a great interest in all matters affecting the Mangohui County, and the electorate generally. He is at present chairman of the Mangonui County Council, a member of the Bay of Islands Licemiing- Committee, and has always been a piroaiiment member of the Fanners* Union, and; as he is held in the highest respect in the district in which he is best known, his chance at- tbe next general election should be a very favourable one. •Mr. Martin spoke optimistically of the Opposition prospects generally.
