VITAL STATISTICS.
EASTER AND MARRIAGES. The following tables show the vital statistics for Auckland for the f. month 'and quarter which ended yesterday, together with the figures for the corresponding periods of last year :— > Month. Quarter. ~\ 1911. 1910. . 19U. 1910. Births -.. 264 226 730 680 Deaths ... 107 135 330 350 Marriages 105 154 321 361 The figures show that the surplus of births over deaths last month was considerably greater than it was in March "last year, the births having increased by 38, and the deaths having decreased by 28. The net addition to the population "by natural causes,", during the month, "has been 157, and during the quarter, 400. There is a marked falling off in the number of marriages compared" with last year's period, especially during March, when the falling off was actually greater than the difference for the quarter, the figures for January and February being rather better than in 1910. This is but an apparent loss, and will in all probability be fully made up this month. It is due to that somewhat elusive festival, Easter, which last year fell in March, but which is this year still a fortnight off. Easter marriages are very popular, and the great Church festival is always accompanied by numerous important domestic celebrations.
