! ; THE RUGBY GAME. ! * NEWTON CLUB. i The annual meeting of the Newton Disi tnct Football Club was held in the club's • training-hall last evening, there being an • attendance of over 40 members. Several > new members were elected. The annual re- - port referred to the club's lack of success > on the field last season, the third grade ' • team, who were runners-up, being the most ' successful. The prospects for this season \, were decidedly brighter, and the club's officers hope to place a * good senior team in the field. The balance-sheet disclosed a healthy state of affairs. The club has a credit balance of £31 ss, assets valued at £400, and liabilities totalling £60. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:— Mr. W. '..rt hern , Union rules)' was held at the Dovonport Borough Chamber*/ on Thursday evening. Tho meeting was a large one, there _ being 40 playing members present, in addition to representatives frou tho Auckland Provincial Rugby League and the New Zealand ( Rugby Football League. Mr. D. W. Mc--1 Lean, the president of the New Zealand i Rugby Football League, presided, and tho , meeting was characterised by the enthusi- > astio and intelligent interest token in the -proceedings and the, future operations of the club. The balance-sheet wa? highly . satisfactory, , considering the youth and ex- - penses of tho club, and[the new committee i will go into office with a fair credit balance, i The committee's report stated that they are > of opinion, that, in Devonport they ham the ' material to put forward a first-class senior i and .a > first-class . junior team. .
