ESTABLISHMENT OF UNITS.
THE RECRUITING STANDARD

A district order was issued (o-day by the officer commanding the Canterbury military district, in which it is stated that it has been decided that, the establishment of the units of the New Zealand Territorial Forces shall be as nearly as possible identical with the. Imperial war establishment. Tho units are, therefore, to bo recruited up to the. following standards Mounted Rifle Regiment : Twenty-five officers, 528 men. Four-Gun Batten' Field Artillery : Four officers, 150 men. Field Troop Engineers : Three officers, 78 men. Field Company .Engineers : Six officers, 206 men. Infantry Battalion : Twenty-nine officers, 995 men. Cavalry Field Ambulance : Six officers, 70 men. Field Ambulance : Ten officers. 182 men. Tho detailed establishments for the Territorial Forces are to be issued in duo course. In the meantime the peace estabj lishment of the forces, as issued last year, | is to bo considered obsolete except as | regards the New Zealand Garrison Artillery, the establishment of which will rei main for the present as formerly laid I down. The establishment for mounted j and dismounted signal companies will be ! issued later, but for the present an estabi lishment of one officer and 50 men may jbe taken as a rough guide. Registration ! will be restricted as a whole to men be-
j tween the ages of 18 and 21 years, and all i men enrolled from now on will be held to ] serve up to the age of 25. Capitation | will be paid annually in respect of men j who are on the 1910-1911 rolls. All men enrolled after the closing of the 1910-1911 j rolls will be equipped and clothed by the I Defence Department.
