By Telegraph.Press Association. —Copyright.
London, January 25. Dr. Alister- Mackay, the explorer, stated in the course of an interview to-day that he intended to start for Graham Land in August, and would be absent for two years. A relief ship would meet the party at the great ice barrier or at Hut Point, but if icebound, the party would cross Ross's ice barrier for Shackleton's or Scott's huts to replenish supplies.
Dr. Mackay last week submitted to the Royal Geographical Society plans to explore the coastline of the Antarctic region from Graham Land to King Edward VII. Land at a cost of £20,000. Graham Land lies to the south of South America, and King Edward VII. Land is south of Australia. The possibility of working in conjunction with. Dr. W. S. Bruce, of the Scottish Oceanogruphical Department, who is planning another expedition to'the Antarctic, was suggested. Dr. Mackay's proposed expedition is to be restricted to six men, three sledges and 24 dogs. The party will rely upon the seals in the Weddel Sea for the greater part of ,their food and fuel.
