THE GOVERNOR.
His Excellency the Governor leaves Wellington for Auckland to-morrow, arriving on Sunday morning. -On Monday'evening Lord Islington will preside at tho banquet to be given to the mining engineers at the Grand Hotel, and on the following day he will proceed with them on their visit to Thames and Waihi. He returns to Wellington on February 3. Lord and Lady Islington are not likely to take up their residence in Auckland until the end of March, as it is not expected that Government House will be ready for occupation before then. The Viking, the yacht leased by His Excellency, will not be placed in commission until about the same d'.'.te. VISIT TO TARANAKI. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] New Plymouth, Thursday. His Excellency the Governor (Lord Islington) arrived at New Plymouth on his first official visit to Taranaki. on Wednesday evening. He first visited the Taranaki Petroleum Company's works at Moturoa, and showed keen interest# in what he saw. He made the following entry in tho visitors' book :—"Wish this industry early and lasting success. Red letter, day for Taranaki." " This afternoon one of the motor-cars running trips at the garden party, whera a reception was tendered the Governor, was consuming benzine distilled from petroleum, produced at No. 2 bore of the Taranaki Company. The oil was supplied to themotorist, by the manager, who first a seer-, tained that the tank of the car was completely emptied.
At noon he unveiled a memorial fountain on Marsland Hill. This evening he was a, guest at a concert in the Theatre Royal.
