GRAND JUNCTION.
AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Waihi, Thursday.
At. a point 820 ft east of the main north crosscut in tho Grand Junction mine a start has been made to crosscut from tho Martha reef to connect with the Empire lode. After advancing the crosscut between 20ft and 30ft through the country rock beyond what appeared to be the hangingwall of tho Martha, a fresh make of quartz was intercepted. This has now been penetrated for from 7ffc to Bft, with 110 indication of tho hangingwall, and the lode as far as opened up shows nice sulphide ore. The assay values are not yet available, but the superintendent states "that the reef is of highly payable quality. The discovery will probably prove to be a branch of the Martha lode, and promises to be of considerable importance, as it shows conclusively that 'ore of payable quality exists in the section of the mine, some 1200 ft to 1500 ft east, of tho Waihi Gold Mining Company's boundary. The new generator ordered by the company has arrived in Auckland and should be at the mine in a few days. As soon • as' this is installed the sinking of the shaft for No. 6 level will bo resumed, and the two additonal tube mills will be placed in commission. This will enable the company to treat 400 tons of ore daily, in place of 300 tons.
HAURAKI REEFS.
The manager of the Hauraki Roots mine, Coromandel, telegraphed as follows yesterday:—"Touched strong quartz, boundary, 400 ft level.'' __
KATANGA.
The local secretary received the following telegram from the manager of the Kapangu mine " yesterday :—"Water lowered to sft below top of chamber at the 600 ft level.
