It is understood that Frank E. Beaun» pair©, the, champion swimmer, will be olfered the position of chief instructor of swimming in the State schools shortly by the Victorian Government. Should Beau repairs aeoept the position he will not race again as an amateur. The trials promoted to assist the Canterbury centre in i its selection of representatives for . the New Zealand championships, resulted as follows:— hundred yards breast-stroke: C. Atkinson, 2m. 555.; Polson, 3m. 25.; W. Cookson, 3m. 10 3-55.. Quarter-mile: C. Atkinson 6m. 10s.; H. Rich, 6m. 14s. Two hundred and twenty yards: C Atkinson, 2m. 505.; G. L. Bull, 2m.. 545.. Half-mile: H. Rich, 12m.-555.; P. Scirwarz, 13m. Atkinson arrived at the bath too late to compete in the half-mile swim. Canterbury's representatives will probably bo Atkinson and Rich. Poison is a new aspirant for breast-stroke honours, . and his first effort gives promise of better performances. The polo team, present holders, will be found defending its title, and most likely a team' will be nominated in the 500 yds relay championship.
