FOSTER FRASER'S BOOK.
AUTHOR'S REPLY TO CRITICS.

" Sydney, January 23. Mr. Fostee ' Fiiasek, in a letter to the Sun ; dealing with the Australian reviews of his book on Australia,- says, drawing a general impression, from the lot, lie was conscious that the verdict was that he was a libeller. He claimed that whatever comment© he had made there was a warmhearted " affection for" the land and people behind the pen. It had been said that his facts were wrong. That might be, but he had got them from Government publications, officials and Australian newspapers. Mr. Fraser concludes: "I cannot say any more than that I used my pen, as I hoped, for the advantage of your country." '
Mr. Foster Eraser mentions that after a well-known Australian had road the manuscript ho sent the "fire half to Sir George Reid, who suggested a number of corrections. Mr. Eraser says lie pointed out that some rof these conflicted with matter culled from Government' books, and Sir George Reid took the huff and returned tilie rest of the manuscript, saying that he would take no responsibility for the book.
