Tho' mcnaco of 'Mahomcdiinism in Africa was touched upon by the Rev. J. Mackonzie; in an address given in Christchurch recently. Mr. Mackenzie said that i the missionaries of Islam . were pouring .through the Soudan, and a wave of Maliornedanism was sweeping through -Africa. ' Millions of native people were at the mercy" of; Maliomedariism, and at the great university in Cairo there were several thousands of students who were being educated in that religion, which meant fanaticism and bitter hostility to Christian nations. A call for 150 people to go to the Soudan had been made by the missionary authorities, and the response had been such that there wits every likelihood of the torrent of Mahomedaniisrn being stemmed. Jurisdiction in respect of harbour matters at Tokomaru Bay ia now vested in the Waiapu City Council, [ and under the Act of lust session the contract for the construction of harbour facilities is being taken over by the 'Council* The chairman, Mr. 11. 13. Williams, stated' on Saturday that a survey of the bay had been carried out, and had disclosed the existence of a good depth of water up to the harbour site.; Tokomaru ay, he added, missed many of the southerly storms disbar lie experienced!
