POLICE COURT NEWS.

:AN , UNDESIRABLE CHARACTER. At the Police Court on Saturday morning, before Mr. J. Rountree, J.P., a rough, unkempt looking ; individual named Edward Thomas McKcverigan was fined 2s 6d for drunkenness. To a further charge of being an idle and disorderly person he pleaded not guilty. The police report was most unfavourable, being to the effect that accused spent his time in hanging round hotel corners, and making himself a nuisance in ■ the Auckland Domain. He was sent to gaol for 14 days. THE INEBRIATES. Mary Whittingham, an elderly woman, who -was found drunk in Union-street, was fined 10s, or 48 hours' imprisonment. Mary. Ann Gibbs, charged with drunkenness, was remanded until this morning on the application of the police. It appeared that she had, on a previous occasion, been convicted of being an idle and disorderly person, and' was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon. On that occasion she had given a promise not to touch liquor in the future. MISCELLANECTOB. V. . Thomas Charles Spearpoint pleaded not guilty to being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, also to a charge of disorderly conduct. Henry r Parker (Mr. Lundon), a Devon port resident, charged with assaulting his wife, and threatening to tako her life, was also remanded until to-day. Bail was allowed in one surety of £50, and a personal security of £50.

* A young man named Joseph Esdale was charged with disorderly conduct, and with refusing to - leave the Shakespeare. Hotel when requested by the licensee. He was remanded until this morning. : : -
