YEAR'S POPULATION RETURNS.

EXCESS OF DEPARTURES.

The returns of the arrivals of persons at, and the departures from, the port of Auckland for the month of December show that the arrivals were 1184, or 90 less, than during November, and 29 more than during tho last month of 1909. The departures last month showed a substantial rise, the total being 912, as against 699 in November (an increase of 213) and 689 in December, 1909 (an increase of 214).

The total returns for 1910 show that 11,026 persons have arrived at Auckland during the year, or 196 fewer than in 1909, when the number was 11,222. The departures for 1910 totalled 12,007, as compared with 11,533 in 1909, an increase of 474. The excess, it will be soon, was On the wrong Side Of the ledger in both years, and this excess was 670 greater last year than in 1909, the respective balances being 981 and 311.
