(Received January 1, 6 p.m.) Lisbon, December 31. Brigands attacked the house of Dotn Juan Rios, a wealthy banker, of Puerto Laluz, during the progress of a ball given by him. The house is an isolated one, and it was a considerable time before outside protection could be obtained. The' guests barricaded the doors and windows and armed themselves with fowling pieces and revolvers. They were thus able to hold the brigands at bay for two hours, when a force of civil guards arrived and drove the. brigands into the raoun--1 tains.' During the struggle two of the robbers were killed and six were wounded. Several of Rios's guests were slightly wounded.
