NOTES AND COMEKTS. Mr. .Tamos Dicksou, at one frme captain of "the now defunct. Ponsonby Rowing Club, is at present in town. Auckland-born, the ' genial " Jimmy," as he was popularly known: ; among his contemporaries, was ever a keen sport, and several times successful!? represented his club in the. champion gig races, which some 15 years ago were very poplar among rowing men. end victory in which was stcrnlv contested. Mr. Dickson was also the late Professor Carrollo's lieutenant ill tho srvranasium whi:h he so successfully conducted in this city for many years. After leaving Auckland, about 12 years ago, Mr. Dickson proceeded to Germany and France, where he underwent a course of art study, attaining the distinction of having several of his pictures hung in the Paris Salon, and now holds the position of art master in the Invorcargill Technical School. His many friends have bid him welcome to the city of his birth, and have wished him every success in his future . career. Lrss.
