POLICE COURT NEWS.

MAN FOUND IN A HOUSE. The movements of a man named Alfred Enoksen the other evening aroused the suspicions of the police, with the result that two constables watched ,him. Presently he entered a dwellinghouse, and was quickly followed there by the police, and was arrested. Asked for an explanation, the man, whose mind appeared to be wandering, said .he ;mistook the place for the park and entered for the purpose of having a sleep. He was charged at the Police Court yesterday before Mr.' E. C. Cutten, S.M., with being a rogue and a vagabond in that he was Sound on premises at night without lawful excuse. There were no previous convictions, and in the circum l stances His Worship discharged the accused. An untidy-looking middle-aged man named Albert Neary,. whoee past is as much stained as the garments he wore, was charged with being, a rogue and a vagabond. Lengthy evidence was given by the police as to the bad life the man was leading, and the magistrate sentenced him to 12 months' imprisonment.

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. James Millar, who recently attempted to commit suicide ;by swallowing match heads, has now recovered, and was before the Court charged with attempted suicide. It appears that seme time before Millar took the matches his wife left him, and .he had a number of small v children to look after. It was stated that the children were now : alone in a house, ' which was inadequately . furnished,, and contained little food. Under these circumstances the magistrate decided to allow Millar to return home, but a prohibition order was taken out against him.

DRUNKENNESS. , On charges of drunkenness "William [Meldram was fined ss, and two first offenders were each fined ss. MISCELLANEOUS. For using obscene language in Dockstreet a woman named Margaret Gearin was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and pay costs. For being drunk and committing an indecent act in a street a seafaring man named Dugald Black was ordered to be placed/ on his ship* at Auckland. William Hamilton, charged with committing an indecent act, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment,' which Hamilton hoped would put the desire for drink out of him. 1 - . » . Stanley Brown was fined ss, and costs 7s, for allowing two horses to wander in the street. _ . For procuring liquor while prohibited Alfred Stewart Harper was fined £2, or seven days. A fine of ICs, and costs 7s, was inflicted on Joseph Hennessey for allowing his vehicle to stand too long in Manukau Road.
