The steamer T>.irkistan, of the Anglo-Arabian ' and Persian Steamship Company, of London, ana which is under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived from Montreal, via Melbourne and Sydney, at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, berthing at the Queen-street Wharf. The . vessel left Montreal on September ,13 and encountered . fine weather till September 27, thence strong south-east trades to October 12. On October 19 the Crozefc Islands were sighted, the vessel experiencing fine weather, with variable winds, to October 30. A strong gale, with heavy following seas, was then encountered, the ship labouring heavily. Capo Otway was passed on November 3 and Melbourne was Cached on November 4. Discharged cargo at that port and left for Sydney on November 7. arriving there at midnight on November {).-■; Leaving Sydney on November 12 she experienced moderate winds and fin© weather, to the North-Cape, thence strong easterly winds and moderate; seas to arrival. ' MAHENO LEAVES SYDNEY The Union Company's steamer Maheno left Sydney at 3 p.m. on Wednesday lass for Auckland direct. She has 203 passengers and 1150 tons general cargo for Auckland. . The cargo includes the following lines of new season's dried fruits, ex the steamer Linder: —4502 boxes currants, 2586 boxes sultanas, 825 bags figs, 407 cases figs, 139 packages seed, 5 packages nuts. Also ex steamer Otteasen: 807 cases dates, 7 bags filberts, 141 bags sulphur. THE TARAWERA. The Union Company's steamer Tarawera, Captain D. McLean, arrived from Dunedin, via East Coast port®, at 6 p.m. yesterday, berthing at the Queen-street Wharf. She left the Southern port at 4 p.m. on October 11, and experienced fine :to moderate weather until approaching Gisborne, when a heavy swell was eucountered, which . caused : considerable delay in land- ' ing passengers arid cargo. The vessel subsequently left Gisborne at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, find encountered fine clear weather on the run to Auckland, arriving as above.
