AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS
EE CORD ENTRY LIST.
Tkk efforts of tho Auckland Competitions Society in promoting the carnival to bo held from November 21 to November 26, both days inclusive, have so far been crowned with success. When the entry list closed on the 15th inst. no fewer than 1081 entries had been received, and though this number was altogether beyond the most sanguine expectations, there was abundant evidence that if the time for receiving entries was extended many more would be forthcoming. Acting under, strong pressure from all parts of the Dominion, the executive decided to extend the period until the 22nd inst., and their action in doing so has been more than justified by tho fact that up till Saturday evening last, when the extended period tif fed, an additional 250 entries had been receiver!, making 1331 entries all told. This constitutes a record for the first year festival under any competitions society in the Dominion. A pleasing feature about the entry list is that not a .single class in the many set out in the catalogue has been neglected, and that the competitors not only include tho best talent available in Auckland, but are also fairly representative of that which obtains. in the South. This relnark applies with particular emphasis to the musical and elocution events, which have been exceptionally well patronised. For the debating societies' contest six strong teams have entered, the subject at issue being national prohibition, whether it would or would not be in the beet interests • of the Dominion. Eleven teams have also entered for tho boy scouts' classes. „ „- , ' , The society offers over £300 in cash' prizes .and trophies. : ■' 1 ;
