Sergeant J. W. Dart, in charge of the police' training depot at Wellington, is spending two or three days' leave in Auckland. The death is announced by Press Association cable from Sydney, of Mr. John McCormack, for many years a prominent railway contractor in New Zealand. Dr. and Mrs. Bernerdi, of Sydney, are at present on a visit to Auckland, and. aro staying at the Grand Hotel. I hey intend to leave for Rotorua in a day or two. Mr. S. H. Merrikin, of Loudon, and Sir R. V. Kosli. of Hamburg, arrived by the Victoria, on Sunday, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. They intend to tour New Zealand. Dr. and Mrs. Sykes, of London, who, with their ton and daughter arrived from Svdney on Sunday, will leave on a visit to Rotorua to-day. They are at. presentstaying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. P. Haily, Conciliation Commissioner. who has been in Auckland for the past few days in connection with the milkmen's dispute, left for Wellington bv last night's' Main Trunk train. The Conciliation Council, which has been engaged in the settlement of the. milkmen's dispute, last evening decided to convey its svmnathv to Mr. '1. Harle Giles, the Auckland' Conciliation Commissioner, who was recently taken ill in \\ ellington, and its wishes for his speedy xecoverv. A letter has been sent to Mr. Giles, on behalf of the Council, by Mr. P. Hally, who came from Wellington to take his place. The Rev R. Inglis made reference to the death of the Rev. _ Dr. Nisbet. of Dunedin. in his sermon at St. John Prosbyterian Church, in Wellington, on Sunda v morning. Dr. Nisbet. . said the speaker, was an outstanding figure in tno Church, a gifted preacher and organiser, and an able leader. But to those who knew him best these were but secondary things compared with the largeness of his "heart. He was a big man in every way, in mind, in body and in soul.

Miss Stapleton Cotton. Captain G. C. Hamilton, Captain Shannon, and Captain Crich-ton-Alaitland, aides-de-camp. The staff of Messrs. Sharland and Co., Limited. Auckland, took the opportunity on Friday of making a presentation and wishing success and prosperity to Air. Albert Water worth, who had resigned his position with the firm and joined Air. E. S- Pegler. in the New" Zealand Photo. Goods Company, Limited. Mr. Waterworth, as accountant, head of a department, and for some years editor of Sharland's New Zealand Journal, had been a servant of Sharland and Co., Limited, for 16 years, and at the time of his resignation was one of the oldest employees. Mr. Renshaw, the Auckland manager, in making the presentation oi; a handsome marble clock, suitably inscribed, spoke feelingly of Mr. Water worth's many good qualities, and the loss they would suffer by his severance from the staff. After a record of 16 years' service, he looked upon Mr. Waterworth as a permanent member, and his long association with him had been one of the greatest pleasures of his (the speaker's) career. Air. Waterworth, in replying, also spoke with feeling;, and warmly thanked the members of the staff for the memento of their long association. Three cheers were then heartily given for Mr. Waterworth, who afterwards said good-bye to each member of the staff.
