CONFUSION OF NAMES.

Sir—l notice in this mornings Herald a report that the Mount Eden Council are considering the advisability of altering the name of Epsom-Mount Albert Road, This will clear up one item of confusion. Why net at tho same time change the name of the so-called Mount Roskill part of their district? A new post office is being erected and named the Mount Roskill Post Office. The name is a misnomer, and will bo very misleading to the public. . Dominion Road or Mount Eden West would be a much truer designation. There is no post office at all in Mount Roskill, and judging from the present apathy of the local Board, no steps appear likely to be taken to secure one. It seems a great pity that such confusion of names should exist. I know from experience how anno.vine to numbers of people it is. I would also draw attention to another absurdity in names in this part of Auckland. There is a telegraph office at. Three Kings, which the Department has been pleased to name Te Tatua. Wo ought to have either the Maori name or the translated form thereof used- solely and only when naming a district." 'An early unravelling of these name tangles appears very necessary, especially in view of the rapid development taking place in these districts. Hoping those in authority will take the hint. Mixed.
