CEREMONIES IN THE SOUTH.
[BY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. The only observance in Wellington of Empire Day to-day was the placing of flowers on the Queen Victoria statue by the Navy League. Feildixg. Tuesday. Empire Day was celebrated by patriotic ceremonies at" the, .local schools,., which afterwards observed a holiday, Ckristckurch, Tuesday. The only recognition of Empire Day to-day was the hoisting of the flag at the City Council Chambers, and the placing of two wreaths on the Queen's statue in Market Square. CELEBRATION IN SYDNEY. (Received May 24. 10 p.m.) V Sydney, May 24. Empire Day was celebrated in the schools in the usual way, and quietly in the city. Twenty thousand gathered in front of the Post Office, and sang "Rule, Britannia" and the National Anthem, and concluded with cheers for King George.
