"A SOLICITOR'S EXPLANATION." Under the above headings ,we -published in our columns on Saturday; a report of certain proceedings in the Magistrate's* Court >' arising ; out;of |a , judgment i- summons case, in which one Ferri, defendant, and Mr. Hall ■ Sljeltbn, solicitor,' were concerned, 'i The report stated that' after Mr. Kettle had said he was not inquiring ! into Mr. Skelton's conduct at all,' the i latter remarked that the magistrate had i said the trancaction was ''fishy,", and i.hvb Mr. Kettle thereupon replied, "I 4 ttill | think that so far as the transaction - with Ferri was concerned, it was 'fishy.'" What; ' Mr. Kettle* actually said,, we understand, was, "In my opinion, looking 'at the ; whole circumstances, as far as Ferri wis concerned, the transaction was fishy." In the report as published in our columns the context made it clear that no reflection was- cast on Mr. Skelton by-tne magistrate, and we regret if through any, ambiguity of phraseology : a' contrary, impression was conveyed.
