THE EAST COAST TRADE.
IMPROVING THE SERVICE. The Union Company's scliomo of improving the steamship service between Auckland, tho East Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier will bo carried out at an early date. Tlio Flora, which is at present engaged in tho trade, will be withdrawn shortly, and her place wall bo taken by a smaller steamer—negotiations for the charter 'of which are now in progress— a lighter draught and with a limited passenger accommodation. It is proposed to run this vessel fortnightly, or more frequently if circumstances will allow, between Auckland, the East Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier. She will berth at the Gisborne Wharf up the river, and being wholly engaged in this special service will make more frequent calls at the bays than is now possible with the Flora. The company also intend to provide a light draught passenger steamer similar to tho Mapourika 01* tho Rotoiti to trade between Gisborne and Napier. This vessel will also berth at the Gisborne wharf up the river.
