NATIVE MINISTER'S HOPES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Gishorne, Thursday. The Minister for Native Affairs (Hon. J. Carroll) stated to-day in connection with the new Native Land Court circuits that' the allocation of the circuits would be: North Auckland, Judge MacCormick ; South Auckland, Judge Holland ; Bay of Plenty, Judge Browne; Gisborne, Judge Jones; Wanganui, Judge Rawson; Wellington and Hawko's Bay, Judge Gilfedder. In addition, four Commissioners of the Court would be appointed, three in the North and one (Mr. Bishop, S.M.) in the South, to relievo the judges of much routine work. The Government, Mr. Carroll added, had decided to reduce the number of Maori Land Board* to six. Extensive changes would be mad': in the boundaries. The appointment of Mr. Holland as judge would leave a vacancy for the position of registrar in the Auckland Native Land Court Office. Mr. W. Bowler, chief clerk at the head office, succeeds Mr. Holland as president of the Waikato and Maniapoto Boards, whilst Mr. E. P. Earle, of the Auckland office, becomes registrar there.

The Government is making provision for the necessary fund to execute surveys and for the purchase of native lands. The Purchase Board will meet to-morrow to consider offers for purchase by the Crown. The Minister says that he experts that a period of great activity in native land operations all along the line will ensue. . , / ]. •■;.'.
