A RESTAURANT GUTTED.
FIRE IN A BANK.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Wanganui, Thursday. A fire broko out to-night in the premises in Rid gway-street occupied by Mr. Duetins, and known as the Strand Cafe, Ltd. The building was gutted, and the contents destroyed. Owing to Mr. Dustins'o absence from town, the exact insurances are not available, but it is thought that the stock is insured for £300 in the- London, and Lancashire office; the building is also insured for £303. The adjoining premises escaped injury, save that Mr. Gaffney, jeweller, had his stock injured by water. [BY TELSGRAVfI.—rRESS ASSOCIATION.] Invercargill, Thursday. Fire was discovered in the Bank of. New Zealand at a-quarter to three, o'clock this morning by two employees, who were deeping on the promises and were awakened by smoke. The flames were promptly extinguished, the damage amounting to £50. Examination proved thai under the fireplace there was only a thin layer of concrete resting on wood, and the hoat had penetrated, igniting the wood.
