Mr. Emil Schwabe, of the New Zealand Times staff, is on a visit to Auckland, and is staying at the Central Hotel.

Mr. J. W. Henton, of Dunedim general manager for Messrs. Kempthorno, Pressor and Co., is visiting Auckland, and with Mrs. Henton is staving at the Central Hotel.
'Mr and Mrs. T. H. I.owrv and Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Hill, of Hawke's Bay. who returned from Australia on Wednesday, left for home by the Main Trunk train last evening. /
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Keer, formerly of "Arapohuo. loft bv the Navua. on Wednesday on their way to Western Canada, where Mr. Keer has received an appointment as manager of a station.
Professor Scott, of Christchurch, who is one of the members of the Royal Commission appointed to inquire into the question of the efficiencv of the brakes in use on the Auckland tramways, left Christchurch last night (says a Press Association telegram) in order to attend the opening of the Commission in Auckland on Monday next.
Mrs. Ann Anderson, widow of Mr. David Anderson, sen., of Wellington, died yesterday at the age of 95. The deceased (says a Press Association telegram) was born in America, and came out to New Zealand with her late husband to Wellington, in tho barque Pilgrim, in 1849. For the past two vears Mrs. Anderson had been, confined to bed. She has left a family of four sons and four daughters.
News bv cable has been received of the death of Mr. T. Ix>rimer Corbett, M.P. for South Down. Mr. Corbett visited Now Zealand and stayed in Auckland a number of years ago, and last year he paid a visitto Australia for the benoSt of ( his health. His brother, Mr. A. Cameron Corbet*, is M.P. for Renfrewshire, Scotland. The late Mr. Corbett was a cousin of Mrs. F. Corbett-Scott, of "The Manor House," Epsom.
At the social which was held last evening in connection with the New Zealand Licensed Victuallers* Association. Mr. Williams, the secretary, to the New Zealand executive, , was the recipient of a purse of sovereigns amounting to 60 guineas. Mr. Palmer, the president, referred to the valuable services of Mr. Williams to the trade for many years, and asked him to accept the gift as a mark -of their appreciation. Mr. Williams suitably responded.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Abbott, of Auckland, left by the Navua on Wednesday for Fiji, where they intend catching the boat for Vancouver. They will visit England and Europe. Prior to his departure Mr. Abbott entertained the departmental heads of the staff, of R. H. Abbott and Ob. at a farewell dinner, and the occasion was taken to present him with a gold fountain pen, suitably inscribed. The presentation was made by Mr. J. A.
