These grievances of the scoutmasters were 'M brought under the notice of the Hon. Geo. :V Fowlds, who, as Minister for Education, .-.- is the ministerial head of the school cadets. ;|| The Minister afsured a newspaper repre- & sentative that there had been no such policy | as was suggested by some of the boy scouts' M officers. Dr. Makgill (Commiseioner .of : <3 the North Island Boy Scouts), saw the regulations before they were printed, and M expressed his satisfaction with them.- "It ': is quite optional," continued Mr. Fowlds, ,? ".for any unit of the boy scout organisation to iome under the Minister's control, .. but if they elect to do so it is only right, . and quite essential that they shall be under „ the entire control of the Minister. They, ' cannot be under two heads, and as the M Cadet Department would have to provide J| them with uniforms and equipment free, , that department would obviously need the y entire control; but such control would, in 3j no way restrict the boy scout organisation j in the work they are doing now in an unoffi- facial way.
