EASTER HOLIDAYS.

SPORT AND PASTIMES. • • VARIOUS EXCURSIONS. With the nearer approach of Eastertide further holiday fixtures are being added to the list of those already mentioned. The Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday is, of course,, expected to attract great attention, while considerable interest is being centred in the annual tournament of the, Auckland Provincial Bowling Association, which is to commence on the various'greens on Good Friday and extend over a week or thereabouts. Several Auckland cricket teams will be engaging in provincial tours. , , .. ■ ~ A bazaar and Easter. carnival is to be opened at the Marist Brothers' school, Pittstreet, on Saturday, f In addition to the harbour and gulf trips previously noted, special excursions to Waiwera are advertised for to-morrow and Saturday. The»Taknpuna Tramway and Ferry Company will run an excursion to Takapuna to-day by the s.s. Pupuke. The Northern Steamship Company will despatch excursion steamers to W.ftipu tonight and ; to-morrow night in connection with the show, which opens there to-mor-row. The Aupouri will leave Auckland tomorrow night for Whangaroi. Day ■trips will be run to Wuiwera arid wait on Good Friday. The p.s. Wakatere will leave Auckland on Sunday afternoon for 'Thames in connection with the Thames Foresters' sports on Easter Monday. On Easter Monday day trips will bo run to Cowes Bay and Awaroa Bay, Waiheke, Waiwera, and Kawau. Sports under the auspices of No. 1 Company N.Z.G.A.V. will be held at Brown's Island on Easter Monday. . Most of the wholesale business houses and factories are to be closed from to-morrow night to Tuesday .morning, while the retail trade intend observing Friday and Monday only as close holidays. Fire insurance companies and land agents advertise a close holiday from Friday to Tuesday, both days inclusive. The banks will observe the same holidays. At the telegraph office Good Friday will be observed as a Sunday, and the hours of attendance will be from 9.30 to 10 a.m. and from five to 5.30 p.m. On Easter Monday the office will bo open from nine a.m. to four p.m. and from seven p.m. to midnight. The telephone exchange will be open as usual. ■ . : The Foresters' Dominion Picnic is to be held at Motutapu on Saturday.
