X; - FATALITIES IN MINES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] • ' WAini, Monday. -,: A special meeting of the Waihi .Miners and Workers' Union, was held on Satur•day night ,to discuss motion submitted as a result, of the decision arrived at on the occasion of the recent fatality in the Waihi mine, when the members in attendance agreed v to cease work from the time of the accident until after the remains of the victims had been interred. The motion was, "That when a fatal accident occurs in or about a mine or battery, and the victim is a member of the union, as a 1 mark of respect all members in that particular department cease " work for 24 hours, or equivalent to one shift per member, 'on the day of the funeral." To this an amendment was moved as: follows ;':— ; '■ 'That • when a fatal accident occurs, all members stop all -unnecessary work in the particular department in which the accident occurs, until such l time -'as deceased is buried, and that all members; stop work on the day of the funeral." ; ; Considerable discussion ensued, and :•'it was ultimately decided, with the consent of the movers, to refer' the issues to' a ballot of : members to be taken on Saturday next. ■■———^—■—■ '"'■■
