COX'S CREEK DRAINAGE.
HEALTH OFFICER'S ADVICE. PERMANENT WORK REQUIRED. - Two letters Yegardihg the question of improvement of the "sanitary condition of Cox s Creek were received; at the meeting, of the Grey Lynn Borough Council last evening. ;. Dr. Makgill, district health officer, wrote, stating that he had visited Cox's Creek and had examined the plans of the suggested storm water and i sewage channels through the; lagoon. From the point of view of • subsequent reclamation the channels would bo of great value, and they would in some measure mitigate the nuisance by guiding the sewage put, to the flats, beyond : tho bridge, where, perhaps, the deposits would bo less apt to cause trouble. The completion of the various sewers to a point on the margin of the lagoon would greatly improve the- condition of the valleys down which at! present the towage ran in open streams. It \ might be well to approach the City Council in the matter of obtaining funds for the share of storm water channelling for which they were responsible, and proceed thereafter to construct the channels planned by Mr. Wilson, and make a beginning with the work of reclamation at the upper end of the lagoon. . If funds permitted it would be advisable to make the channelling at the upper end of the lagoon of a permanent nature, providing covered watercourses temporarily connected with the'extended sewer outfalls. When the permanent intercepting sewer was installed possibly those temporary connections could be converted into storm water overflows. He was convinced that, no temporary , measures would be of much value, and therefore advocated that any work done bo eithe* permanent or the preliminary stage of a permanent scheme. In the latter category they could place Mr. Wilson's scheme of channelling, for the. wooden walls could be replaced by covered brickwork as opportunity offered. . The letter was referred to the Council in committee. .-■'"•■"*. 1 . '•'-'".... A letter was received from Mr. H. W. Wilson, tAvn clerk of Auckland, who stated, in reply to the Grey Lynn Council's request to bo furnished with copies of any reports by Drs. Valintino and -Purely, that the City Council had no knowledge of any such documents. " : .'."'■/' ■;...'/' The Mayor (Mr. W. J. Holdswdrth) said that was the reply :he expected when he moved that the application be made. He could not understand, therefore, why the city engineer /should have . stated that the doctors had reported adversely on Mr." H. M. Wilson's scheme. Now it appeared that there were no such reports, and he must have been romancing. •
