PLUCKS OUT HER HUSBAND'S EYES. An extraordinary case of collective madness happened at. Grosseto, in Tuscany, where a peasant woman, in": a.fit of madness, during the night awakened her husband and told him ; that/ she had been ordered by the madonna 'to destroy the furniture. The husband obeyed willingly, and helped his wife to throw then* household •-.- goods through ; the' window. .Then he submitted to his wife plucking out his eyes} with ' a table-fork,, and, as this ]-■ was not very effective, sne substituted a knife. The four children-■; watched the ghastly operation horror-stricken,,: and; their scries finally awakened the i neighbours.', The police ' burst open the door and overpowered the woman,' who, armed with ; a hatchet, threatened to , kill them. /.
