CITY HOOLIGANISM.
Sir,A case oame under my notice yesterday of which the facts j are so disgraceful !as to warrant attention in your columns. J -The case/is unhappily a further instance ;of ' the growing tendency towards larrikinism on the part of j a certain section of our inhabitants. It seems'.;that two ladies . from ; the ? country, on their way home , last . night were jostled (evidently intentionally) cby two youths, 8 rid were * subjected to s considerable ' annoyance from them and a : number of brother .larrikins. No policeman happened to ?. be near. One of the ladies was so upset as » to; be seriously ill, and is still; this morning suffering from the effects of such a shock. 5 * Now,"; sir, that such a', state of; things could be is surely preposterous, and a bad slur upon cur good city. If two ladies, without the slightest aggression or offence, cannot proceed quietly home without being subject to such unwarrantable insult, no woman is f afe. Traced to its real origin, the catise undoubtedly lies in the /unpalatable fact that there is growing in our midst .a number of youils, : well dressed - and ' apparently of decent I descent, who think that any woman, especially those ;? from the country, is their rightful victim, and a fit subject for their insults and effrontery. Our police are already doing good work, but my letter will not be in vain if as a result they give further attention, to the checking of this particular kind of larrikinism, An INDIGNANT Citizen.
