CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
An ordinary meeting of the City District Schools' Committee was held in the Nelsonstreet school last evening. Those present were: The chairman (Mr. F. E. N. Gaudin), Messrs. Or. Donaldson, P. M. Mackay, J. C. Sharpies, and E. Shcrson. '.The'' Education Board wrote forwarding the name of Mrs. Marsden, who had been a relieving teacher, for appointment as sixth assistant at Nelson-street school.' This had been approved by the committee and been confirmed by the Board. ; The Chairman stated that, in answer to -representations on the subject, he had authorised the purchase of a number of requisite blinds', as the teachers had been com- ■ plaining of the glare ami the* heat. The action of the chairman was confirmed. The headmaster, of the Federal-street school submitted a report for the year ended December 31, 1909. This showed that the number on the roll at' the end of the year was: Boys, 154; girls, 139: Total, 293.' Ihe report was received. The headmaster of the Nelson-street school reported that at the recent examination of 1 Standard ,VI. pupils, of the 24 scholars sent ' from the school 23 gained certificates "or proficiency and one a certificate of compe- ."■ tency. There were no. failures. Six pupils. also passed the junior national .scholarship examination and one the free placo examina- ■ tion. The committee expressed gratification at the results obtained, and passed a resolution congratulating the headmaster on the success achieved by the pupils.
