DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of 'the Devonport Borough Council .was hold last' evening, when there ,wero present: The Mayor (Mr. W. Handley), Messrs. T. Considino, Ravenhill, J. Mays, Wilding, J. Taj lor, Timewell, R. H. Froude, and Dr. Guinness.

The Mayor and Mr. Time well strongly opposed tho granting of tho right-of-way until legal opinion had been had with regard to the matter, while Dr. Guinness and Mr. Considine contended that tlio required permission was quito in order, and should be given' at once. Eventually, on tho motion of Dr. Guinness, it was resolved that the Council grant the right-of-wa) subject to the law respecting .rights-of-way,; and, further, that the Mayor consult • a solicitor in regard to the matter. •■>,.' ;■ ' A letter was received from tho chairman of the Schools. Committee- stating that the committee was erecting an .up-to-date miniature rifle range, andj asking the Council to provide - a few loads' of clean shell.
