PARNELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A MEETING of the Parnell Borough Council was held last .evening. . Present: Messrs. R. S. Briggs (Mayor), J. McConnell, J. R. Lundon, IV Fitt, - ; W. Thomas, U. Foster, \V. Johns, and C. Palmer.

Tho resignation of Mr. W. F. Bines as a member of the, Council was received.

A 'letter was received from Mr. S. A. Bennett, scoutmaster, requesting, on behalf of the Parnell Boy Scouts, that permission be granted to use the old fortifications at Point Resolution as a clubroom. The writer promised that great care would be taken that no damage would be done to any public or private property in the vicinity.. The letter was referred to tho Legal and Finance Committee to report on at next meeting of the Council. ■ ,

Tho turncock reported that tho water con-' sumption for the past fortnight totalled 2,037,000 gallons.

It was resolved that a copy of tho accepted design (Mr. Herrold's) for a freo puolio library for Parnell, together r with all neoossary particulars in regard thereto, bo forwarded to Mr. Carnegie, with a request for a grant, for tho erection of the building. - A letter was received from the. secretary of the Blind Institute protesting againstthe placing of a feeder box on the footpath near tho institute by the Tramways Company. Tho writer, stated that tho ' box formed an obstruction which was most dan-' gerous, especially to , tho blind people frequenting tlio .vicinity. 'Mr.' Thomas lnovtSd, That 'tho.. Tramways Company bo requested to have tlio- box removed." The Mayor, in seconding • tho motion, said tho present position of the boxes was' a continual source of danger to tho Parnell public. After discussion the motion was passed, with an addition suggested by Mr. ,1. R. Lundon, drawing tlio attention of the manager of the company, to the extreme noise made by somo of; the tramcars passing through tho borough. . ,
