Considerable; ditlieulty is being experienced in landing goods at Accra (West Africa) owing to the accumulation of sand inside, the breakwater.. The Government has therefore ordered a sand-pump dredging plant, 'and it is proposed, to extend the breakwater for a distance of 250 ft at a cost of about'£2o,ooo.

The lighthouse-keeper at Cape Maria Van Diemen reported' that a large steamer passed east at 8 a.in. yesterday. The steamer will probably )i > tho Clan Ross, from liunbmy (W.A.) to Auckland with a cargo of hardwood, "and should put in an appearance about 8 a.m. to-day. She will berth at the Railway Wharf.' . ' WHERE IS THE FOREST. HOME? Considering the smart. passages Made by the four-masted American harquentlnps .las. Johnston and Thomas P. Emigh, which arrived at Sydney during the last few days from Eureka, there,, is now good reason to ask " What has become of the four-masted schooner Forest Home?''' This vessel, which is of 682 tons register, and built of wood, like most, of the American-owned vessels of her class, got. away frpm'the "Sound" us far back as November 13 last, and, as far as known now, lias not since been sighted. She carries a big consignment of lumber, and .in the ordinary course should have turned up at Sydney within the 70 days. ' None of the arrivals at the Commonwealth that followed the course that should be set by the Forest Home report meeting bad
•weather; indeed, in most cases, very fair winds wen; met with throughout . their trips, consequently it is hardly: likely that she would be. becalmed or. buffeting about in contrary con-, ditions, unless by some chance she lias departed from the J; beaten track. Of. course', - there .is no :j«ol reason for anxiety yet, as she is just over 93 days out, and vessels have made much, longer. ;!trip's on' a number of occasions; but, all the same, r': it . is somewhat singular that the Forest Home,
•which has up ■to the present been regarded as one of the " fliers" of the American lumber fleet, has not yet put in an appearance. PORT OF ONEHUNGA. DEPARTURES. CLAYMORE, «.s., 198, E.
