UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Auckland University College Council was held yesterday afternoon,'.those present being: Tho vicechairman (Mr. G. L. l'eacocke), tho Rev. \V. Bcatly, : Dr. McDowell, Rev. H. Simmonds, Mr. T. U. Wells, M.A., and tho Mayor of Auckland (Mr. C. D. Grey). On the motion of the chairman, it was resolved to register the School of Mines under the manual training and technical classes regulations. Other business of a routine nature was transacted. RICHMOND 110 AD BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Roinuera Road Board was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs. Dempsey (chairman), Cawkwell, Bond, ► Dickson, and Pilkington. A deputation was received with regard to the'Middleton .Road formation, complaining that the Board hod.; promised to have tenders called by January, but that, nothing had as yet been done. It Was resolved to';" instruct the engineer to include a footpath in the alterations and call tenders forthwith. A deputation from the residents of Greenlane was received requesting the Board to construct a footpath. It was resolved to carry out the work, provided that the Board should ■ not be held responsible for expense incurred in raising gates and fences. On' the motion of Mr. Bond it was resolved to apply to Mr. Andrew Carnegie for a grant of £3000 for the purpose of erecting a public library, 011 the understanding that tho Board provide a building site and books. It was decided that permission he granted the Kllerslie Town ' Hoard to lay mains in graham-street* for purposes of supplying water Vto the residents of their own district.
