Painters are having rather a bad time of it in Wellington just now. In the opinion of Mr. F. Reyling, secretary of the union, "trade is no better now 'than it was in the winter." Said he to a Post reporter, ".'There are not so many men on the books, but, then, so many have gone away looking for work." When the -new? Government House was ready it was expected that it • would relieve to a I small extent the congestion of - the •painters' labour market; but new buildings going Uup in the city, or nearing completion did not provide much work for - painters, apart from' the doors and sashes. When such buildings were older, then, said Mr. Reyling, the " renovations frequently called for painters. What had been most keenly felt was the slackness in the erection of wooden buildings, which required to be- painted both inside and out. 11 At tho laying of the foundation-stone of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Timaru on Sunday the collection amounted to between £1100 and £1200. • ; Baxter's Lung Preserver drives coughs and colds out of the system, and out .of the J»ua»t ■ Id'* famous because it cures quickly. i :-i0 :: ■ v-'•!
