LABOUR CONFERENCE.

RELATIONS WITH LIBERALS.

A HINT TO IRELAND.

TOYING WITS DEMOCRACY,

By Telegraph.— Association. —Copyright.

(Received February 10, 11.10 p.m.)

. London, February 10. The German Social-Democratic party telegraphed fraternal greetings to the Newport Labour Conference, and congratulations on the successes at the polls, despite the naval' scare. Mr. Keir Hardie, M.P., the chairman, in the course of his address, said that he did not pretend to be satisfied with the result of the elections. He . complained that the Irish National League had ordered the Irish vote in the three-cornered contests, in which Nationalists were not candidates, to be given to the Liberals. It was unlikely, that Home Rule would be secured while the heads of the Irish organisation bludgeoned down Labour candidates.

■ The Labour party must maintain complete freedom of action-in the House of Commons and the constituencies. The treatment that had been meted out to Labour candidates during the election was not the kind to predispose them towards undue friendly relationship with the. Li-, berals. To talk about weakening the veto of the Lords was toying with democracy. He demanded the abolition of the second Chamber.
