THE CHRISTMAS TRAFFIC.
. ■; INFLUX OF 4 VISITORS. A large number of people are arriving in town daily for the Christmas and New Year season, and though a considerable number are departing on, holiday bent, the balance seems to bo in favour of those arriving if the streets are any criterion. Hotels and boardinghousea are filling rapidly with visitors from the country and other centres,' and such attractions as tho provincial and New Zealand tennis championships, the races, etc.,' should bring large numbers of others into town during tho next few days. Booking* for the end of the week are very heavy, and a number of hotels anticipate having to turn visitors away. The coastal boats brought a considerable number of visitors to town yesterday, notably the Ngapuhi from Whangarei, which carried over 80 saloon and 42 steerage passengers. The local trains were well filled •while tho expresses brought and took large numbers of persons. The morning express from Wellington brought between 250 and 300 persons, and the afternoon about 250. The morning express for Wellington took about 250, and the night express was even heavier. Tho ten a.m. train for Rotorua, was very heavy, currying about 350 passengers. i
