. A RESOURCEFUL CLERK. ; As audacious attempt to rob the Glenelg (South Australia) branch of the Commercialj Bank took place on Wednesday afternoon, December '• 1. At about one o'clock the teller, Mr. Andrew Crowe, was preparing ■ his books and cash prior to setting out, for the city, when he was surprised by the entrance of two men, disguised with long % false whiskers and masks; One of; the men, ', closed the door from the inside,' and the other, approaching the counter, presented;a. revolver at Crowe, and demanded,i Money ?. or your life."' With the greatest presence,of mind, Mr. Crowe immediately fell on his J knees behind 'the counter, and, grasping • his revolver, called (loudly for help. : His : sudden and apparently unexpected ' action f ; frightened the would-be thieves, who bolted * into Chapel-street, a side street 'close to |.' the bank, where they entered a covered % trap, and galloped away. They were seen < to pull the beards and masks from their faces, and both looked to be about 40 years 1 of .age. One had a short- dark moustache and the. other, was clean shaved. The local ; police were promptly notified of ' the occur- ; rence, and, with several residents,? pursued § the men on bicycles. As the, desperadoes were leaving the bank Mr. Crowe 1 hurled an ink bottle, which struck one of them. ;;•
